Summer School Magazine
During the summer holidays 10 year 11 students from Lanfranc took part in a two week summer school run by Football Beyond Borders. The students struggled out of their beds during the holiday to come into school where they did a combination of classroom sessions, football and trips, including a day of white water rafting at the Olympic Park. During the two weeks, the students decided they wanted to create a magazine which focussed on their lives growing up in South London. Coming up with ideas for articles, they researched, wrote and edited the copy before working with a graphic designer to make their ideas become a reality on the page.
They then made the journey to the international bank, JP Morgan, in central London, where they pitched for the funding to get the magazine printed. The pitch was successful and the end result is Oh So South – a magazine that includes articles on music, food, football and much more. One of the students, Martin, said: ‘ We felt it was important to challenge some of the negative stereotypes about South London and show the South London that we all know and love. It was an amazing two weeks but involved a lot of hard work to get the magazine done in such a short time. We are all so proud of what we have produced, it looks amazing and it’s a great read.’
