History

KS3

All pupils study history twice a week in years 7 and 8. The aim is for pupils to gain an understanding of how Britain has developed and its relationship to the wider world while having the ability to question this narrative. We also focus on important global events that have shaped the world today.

Y7
Students in Year 7 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • The Romans
  • Life in the Middle Ages
  • The Tudors
  • Islamic Civilisations

Y8
Students in Year 8 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Britain in the 18th & 19th Century
  • The Slave Trade
  • Civil Rights in America
  • World War I & II including the Holocaust

KS4

History is an option subject at KS4 which may be chosen from year 9. Students have 3 lessons a week. The final GCSE grade is made up of two written exams (80%) and a controlled assessment (20%).

Y9
Students in Year 9 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Source skills focussed on democracy and dictatorship
  • Mock Controlled Assessment on World War II bombings
  • Britain 1900-1918 (GCSE Paper 2)

Y10
Students continue with the GCSE syllabus which includes:

  • America 1919-1941 (Paper 1)
  • Germany 1918-1945 (Controlled Assessment)
  • Cold War – Causes of the Cold War (Paper 1)

Y11
Students in Year 11 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Cold War – Cuban Missile Crisis (Paper 1)
  • Cold War – Vietnam War (Paper 1)
