Music

If your son or daughter would like to learn an instrument, pupils can ask for a letter from Ms Yangopoulos at the Academy. The following lessons are available: Saxophone, Clarinet, Voice, Drum kit, Flute, Violin, Guitar, Keyboard.

KS3

All students study Music once a week at KS3. All students perform and compose using classroom percussion instruments, drum kit, keyboards and voice.

Y7

Students in Year 7 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • I’ve Got Rhythm
  • Keyboard Performance
  • Sing a Song

Y8

Students in Year 8 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Bach, Beethoven and the Boys
  • The Blues
  • Popular Music

KS4

Music is an option subject at KS4 which students may choose to study at GCSE level commencing in Y9.

Students in Year 9 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Introduction to Sibelius
  • Using texture, rhythm and structure in composition
  • GCSE Performance

Y10

Students in Year 10 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Rhythm and metre, harmony and tonality
  • Texture and melody
  • Timbre and dynamics

Y11

Students in Year 11 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Structure and form
  • Preparation for appraising a composition
  • Preparation for the listening and appraising examination

Students’ coursework will be completed during the three years alongside the topics for each term.
