KS3

All students study Computer studies once a week at KS3. Lessons involve a combination of ICT and Computer Science, which has a much stronger focus on programming and computational thinking.

Y7
Students in Year 7 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Internet Safety.
  • Computer Control.
  • Computer Programming (line coding and graphical).
  • Creative projects.

Y8
Students in Year 8 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Computer Hardware and Software.
  • Computer Networks.
  • Web design (HTML).
  • Computer Programming (line coding and graphical).

KS4

From Year 9, Students can choose to study the Cambridge Nationals in ICT. This is a vocationally related qualification that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. There are four units made up of 75% practical assignments and 25% examination.

Y9
Students in Year 9 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Unit 1 – Understand how ICT can be used to meet business needs.
  • Unit 1 – Know how to work with information and data to meet specified business needs.
  • Unit 2 – Using ICT skills to create business solutions.

Y10
Students in Year 10 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Unit 1 – Know how ICT can be used to support business working practices.
  • Unit 1 – Legal, ethical, safety and security issues.
  • Unit 5 – Creating an interactive product using multimedia components.

Y11
Students in Year 11 follow a programme of study which includes:

  • Unit 1 – Understanding computer systems (exam revision).
  • Unit 7 – Creating dynamic products using sound and vision.
